GetClipFox — turn a script into a video with AI

Project Overview

An AI video generator. You paste a script; it splits the text into scenes, generates a visual and a voice-over for each one, and hands back an editable timeline that exports to MP4 in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1.

The Challenge

Rendering a video takes minutes and a headless Chromium, so it cannot live inside a web request. And the exported file has to match what the editor preview showed — a user who tweaks a scene and gets a different video back will not trust the tool twice.

The Solution

Rails owns the render state and queues a Sidekiq job. A separate, stateless render server renders the video and streams the MP4 back for storage on S3. The editor preview and the export read the same video document, so there is one source of truth instead of two renderers drifting apart. Every media URL is checked before rendering starts, because one broken image link would otherwise hang the whole job.

Outcomes

  • •In private beta at getclipfox.com, with invite-only sign-up
  • •Rails 8.1 API with a Next.js front end: the same split I move client applications toward
  • •The whole stack — database, Redis, API, workers and front end — starts with one docker compose up
